Stephen King Shows Support For New Salem’s Lot Adaptation

Stephen King has given his stamp of approval for the newly-released adaptation of his iconic vampire horror tale, Salem’s Lot, and courtesy of a cheeky snap the writer shared from his home (via Twitter), is excited for the premiere of the film, posing against a kitchen countertop with a toy figure of Dracula. Beneath the counter sits a movie poster of Salem’s Lot.

“My and my friend the Count await the premiere of the latest ‘SALEM’S LOT, October 3, HBO Max” King, known for penning horror classics including The Shining, Carrie, and Christine, writes on the social media platform. “Be careful what you invite inside…” the poster’s tagline reads. In February, King shared his opinion on the film on Twitter.

“Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new SALEM’S LOT and it’s quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the fucking things.”

Fans with a Max subscription eager to watch the film before reaching its cinematic release window can watch Salem’s Lot on the streamer since launching yesterday (October 3). The adaptation is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 11, for audiences in the UK and Ireland.

The film is the third adaptation of Stephen King’s source material, following two miniseries, released in 1979 and 2004, respectively. Written and directed by Dauberman, executive producers James Wan and Michael Clear (Atomic Monster), Roy Lee (Vertigo), and Mark Wolper join the project.

Salem’s Lot stars Lewis Pullman (who makes his Marvel debut in Thunderbolts*), Makenzie Leigh (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk), Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones), Alfre Woodard (Luke Cage), William Sadler (Die Hard 2), John Benjamin Hickey (Pitch Perfect), and Jordan Preston Carter (DMZ).
