HBO’s The Franchise Gets A New Chaotic Trailer

The first full trailer for HBO’s superhero satire The Franchise is here, teasing nothing but disruption and disorder on the set of a struggling superhero project, led by a group of so-called “top-drawer professionals.”

As you’ve already guessed, the cast and crew are a world away from such a thing. Daniel (Himesh Patel), is the first assistant director. His job, beyond keeping the cast and crew alive, is to work with Eric (Daniel Brühl), the studio director, to support his vision and bring his concept to life.

As first assistant, Daniel is maybe the busiest man on the set, juggling the everyday troubles of the team around him, shoddy VFX, and contending with an obnoxious director who wants the sound guy fired for wearing an “indoor scarf.”

With the studio executives popping by for a visit and the director facing claims of sexism (despite his protests that he’d always “wanted to do a feminism”), the show must go on, even if it all ends in flames. If the footage from a previous teaser is anything to go by, a fire could be the best outcome for the production.

The Franchise further stars Aya Cash (The Boys), Jessica Hynes (Doctor Who), Billy Magnussen (Road House), Lolly Adefope (Ghosts), Darren Goldstein (The Affair), Isaac Powell (Our Son), and Richard E. Grant (Loki).

Brown has taken up the mantle as showrunner, while Mendes steps in to direct the pilot, which Brown penned. Collectively, the executive producers behind the series are Mendes, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, and Julie Pastor for Neal Street Productions; Armando Iannucci for Dundee Productions; Jon Brown and Jim Kleverweis.

The Franchise airs on HBO on October 6, 2024, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT and will be available to stream on Max.
