Courteney Cox has shared her thoughts on Neve Campbell’s absence from Scream 6, which debuts in cinemas on March 10. “I’m going to support whatever she feels is right,” the Friends actress revealed in an interview with Variety. Campbell’s absence from the film is notable since previously appearing in every instalment of the horror franchise, beginning with the 1996 original. In filming for Scream 6, Cox said she was a part of “a really good scene with Ghostface and it was amazing.”
“I’ve obviously been stabbed many times and all that, but this time, to work with Ghostface and not know who’s under the mask, it was really fun. Usually by the time I’m getting stabbed, I know who it is,” she said. At a recent Mad Monster Party Arizona panel (thanks to ScreenRant), Campbell confirmed there were plans for Sidney’s character to feature in the sixth film.
“There were plans for Sidney, and they are no longer, unfortunately. I’m sure they’ll make a good movie. As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise,” Campbell said at the time.
Scream 6 will further star Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Hayden Panettiere, Henry Czerny (who is set to appear in Mission Impossible 7 next year), Tony Revolori, Samara Weaving, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Thomas Cadrot, and Andre Anthony. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct their second film in the franchise following Scream (2022).
Plot details surrounding Scream 6 were recently leaked online, and Ghostface responded.
