Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who: Four New Cast Members Added

Ncuti Gatwa’s first series of Doctor Who has added four new cast members, recently revealed in a story by Yahoo! (as announced in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine). The long-running sci-fi series has confirmed the casting of Gemma Arrowsmith, Billy Brayshaw, Mary Malone, and Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy. Beginning with Arrowsmith, the actress is reportedly appearing in this year’s Christmas Special, which will air after the November specials.

Arrowsmith is best known for her work on the Emmy-nominated Tracey Ullman’s Show, with stints in Riot GirlsNewsjackDave Gorman’s Modern Life is Goodish and Bravest Warriors. Brayshaw, meanwhile, is known for their work on A Christmas Story Christmas and the comedy series, Still So Awkward. Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy is best known as Jesse Donovan on Hollyoaks, a role he held between 2016 to 2020.

Phil Collinson, a producer on Doctor Who teased that while the end-of-year cast continues to grow, “some names” have yet to be announced. He called it “a delight to welcome two more names on board, with Gemma Arrowsmith and Mary Malone… and you won’t have to wait long to find out how they connect to the Doctor and Ruby Sunday.”

“Coming up after that, in the 2024 series, it’s a delight to open the studio doors to a former star of Hollyoaks with Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy. His character in the ‘Oaks, Jesse, died of alcohol poisoning on his wedding day, so let’s hope he has a more peaceful time in the Whoniverse. Although I can’t promise!”

“And, in a separate episode, we’re delighted to say hello to Billy Brayshaw. And there are so more names to come!” Collinson added. Recently, Doctor Who has received fresh faces to the cast Jonathan Groff (of Mindhunter fame), and Millie Gibson (Coronation Street), as the latest companion, Ruby Sunday.

Doctor Who can be streamed on the BBC iPlayer, and classic episodes are available on Britbox.
