The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon takes the story to the heartland of Paris, a world away from the heat and familiarity of Georgia, a prominent location for the parent series. Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) will be out of his depths in more ways than one, as he’ll be coming up against new undead dangers lurking within the capital city.
Veteran make-up master and mainstay director with The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero, has outlined what Daryl can anticipate from his upcoming escapades. Chief among these will be a new type of zombie that will “change all the rules.”
“These zombies have mutated to a point where if they touch or bite you or their blood gets on you, it burns you significantly,” Nicotero told TV Insider. “Dixon takes us back to the beginning of what the DNA of The Walking Dead started as, which is a man on a mission.”
In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nicotero discussed the walker variant that cropped up during the final season of The Walking Dead. “We sort of played into that as if there might be certain walkers in certain regions that might have different abilities that we really haven’t seen before,” he continued. “We’re kind of playing into the idea that some of these are out there and they’re just encountering them now.”
We know, given the events of The Walking Dead: World Beyond, that the outbreak originated in France, so it stands to reason Daryl will be facing against newer, more advanced threats than those witnessed before.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon debuts on September 10, 2023 on AMC and AMC+.
