The Invincible Live-Action Film Is Still In The Works

Robert Kirkman has provided a long-awaited update on the state of the live-action Invincible film. The project was first conceived in 2017, long before the animated series landed on Prime Video. In a conversation with The Direct, Kirkman said the film is “still in development”, with Kirkman and the team in collaboration with Universal.

“You know, the show is going so well. I think the movie absolutely has to be perfect. And so it’s taking a lot of time, like getting the pieces aligned and getting everything to work so that we can come out and make it as good as it can possibly be. So it’s been in development for a long time, and it’s probably going to be in development for a while longer.”

“Just because, in relation to the show, it has to provide a different experience, it has to still be true to Invincible in some interesting ways. But it has to be its own thing. It has to stand on its own. And so that’s something we’re spending a lot of time crafting. But I think when it finally happens, it’s gonna be really cool,” Kirkman added.

Known for creating The Walking Dead comic book series, Kirkman further quipped that the film might “take so long” to come together that “Timothée Chalamet can play Omni-Man.”

Steven Yeun, who voices Mark Grayson, informed Collider that Season 3 was in the works and that the cast and crew had been “working hard to get a lot of backlog done. We wanna time this animation thing appropriately. So, yeah, we’ve been working. We’re banking episodes, we know what’s going on.”

Seasons 1-2 of Invincible can be streamed on Prime Video, and stars Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Walton Goggins, and Sandra Oh. The third and fourth seasons are both in development.
