Scream 6 has its official teaser trailer, and this time, Ghostface takes their killing spree to New York City. The trailer reunites fans with a few familiar faces from the franchise, including Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), her sister Tara (Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding).
The group ride on the Subway in preparation for Halloween, and naturally, multiple Ghostface masks begin to leer at them through a crowded carriage of Halloween-goers. Supported by the ominous warning that “in a city of millions, no one hears you scream,” Ghostface inevitably strikes and attacks Savoy Brown’s Mindy.
Much like the fate of Mindy’s character, plot details for Scream 6 remain under wraps, but Courteney Cox will be reprising her legacy role as Gale Weathers. Hayden Panettiere will return to the franchise as Kirby Reed, last seen over ten years ago in Scream 4. However, Scream 6 will mark the first film since 1996 without an appearance from main star Neve Campbell, having ruled out her involvement earlier in the year.
“As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” Campbell said in a statement (via Deadline). “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
Scream 6 will further star Henry Czerny (who is set to appear in Mission Impossible 7 next year), Tony Revolori, Samara Weaving, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Thomas Cadrot, and Andre Anthony. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct their second film in the franchise following Scream (2022).
