Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor In Costume For The First Time

With every new incarnation of the iconic Time Lord, there’s a new TARDIS, a new companion, and inevitably, a costume upgrade for the Doctor, and now we know what Ncuti Gatwa’s Time Lord will look like as he emerges from the TARDIS next year. The first photo of Gatwa’s Fifteenth incarnation has been shared via Doctor Who’s Twitter account.

Gatwa, best known for his role in Sex Education, is pictured alongside Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday, the next companion to join the Doctor aboard the TARDIS, also in costume. Gatwa poses in a matching brown checked jacket and trousers, an orange top, and what looks like Doc Martins.

In another picture, Gibson is standing alongside her co-star in a denim jacket and blue skirt. Gatwa will succeed David Tennant’s Tenth/Fourteenth Doctor, who returns to the series in 2023 for three specials to commemorate the show’s 60th anniversary. In response, excited Doctor Who fans have flocked to Twitter to repost memes of previous incarnations of the Doctor.

Unlike his successor, Tennant’s regeneration recently led to confusion after assuming the role from Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor in his own outfit.  Russell T. Davies, the next series chief, addressed the clothing controversy at the time, saying he felt “the notion of men dressing in ‘women’s clothes’, the notion of drag, is very delicate. I’m a huge fan of that culture and the dignity of that, it’s truly a valuable thing.”
