Doctor Who: Filming Begins For Ncuti Gatwa’s First Series

Production for Ncuti Gatwa’s first series in Doctor Who has officially started. Filming was confirmed in a behind-the-scenes set photo of a clapperboard shared on Doctor Who’s official Twitter account. In the picture, seen further below, the clapperboard features the show’s brand-new, 70s-style diamond logo, and in the background, we can see the doors to Gatwa’s TARDIS. It even appears to be snowing, which has led to fan theories that they could be filming a Christmas Special.

The image has received an enthusiastic response from Doctor Who fans, from memes of Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and David Tennant in the show. “I’m soo ready! Ncuti is already my Doctor! lets do this,” says one Twitter user. “Dress me as an alien I’ll catch a bus to Cardiff right now,” another user replies.

Gatwa was appointed as the Fifteenth Doctor in May and serves as David Tennant’s successor, who, in an unprecedented move for the long-running sci-fi series, returned to play the Fourteenth Doctor during Jodie Whittaker’s finale in October. Gatwa appeared in the last seconds of a teaser trailer for Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary celebrations following Tennant’s surprise regeneration.

Doctor Who returns to our televisions in November 2023 for three special episodes.
