Mission Impossible 8 – better known by its official title Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2, has added two new cast members to its roster. In a Twitter post marking the 200th episode of the Light the Fuse Podcast, director Christopher McQuarrie confirmed that Nick Offerman, best known for playing Ron Swanson in NBC’s Parks and Recreation, would join the film.
Offerman will be joined by Janet McTeer (Oscar-nominated for roles in Albert Nobbs and Tumbleweeds) in an undisclosed role for the conclusion to the Dead Reckoning two-parter.
The photo stills in McQuarrie’s social media post provide the only clues to who Offerman and McTeer will be playing. Offerman is almost unrecognisable with a clean-shaven face, kitted out in a decorated military uniform. McTeer, who’d recently appeared as Helen Pierce in Ozark, will play someone of high authority, looking snappy in a tight dark suit.

Offerman was interviewed on the Light the Fuse Podcast – and described the experience of working on Mission Impossible 8 as “really fun and fascinating. There’s a handful of very high-caliber actors that I’m getting to work with as well as the lead guy, and getting to toss the ball around is incredible.”
The 52-year-old actor, who’ll also be appearing as Bill in HBO’s adaptation of The Last Of Us, praised the cast and crew for bringing “a great deal of elan and panache and years of experience. And watching [McQuarrie] and Tom [Cruise] do their thing, you can’t really describe it to people. You have to be there. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like they’re painting an incredible mural and we’re all the paints.”
Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning – Part One will star Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Shea Whigham.
Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning – Part One will be released on Friday 14th July 2023, before Mission Impossible 8 debuts in cinemas on Friday 28th June 2024.
