Hideo Kojima has praised the superhero satire spin-off Gen V on Prime Video, which launched on the streamer on September 29. Known for his work on the Metal Gear Solid series and Death Stranding titles, the 60-year-old director said he was “very satisfied” with what he had seen of Gen V, calling the spin-off “great.”
“I love “THE BOYS,” so I watched an episode of its spin-off, “GEN V,” Kojima wrote in a tweet (H/T ComicBook). “Is it a superhero school? A super power school Z or a “Euphoria” version of a super power? I was expecting something a little different, but it’s a direct school version of “THE BOYS”!” Kojima added.
“They’ve gone all out! Blood, guts, and youth are all over the place! I was very satisfied! Oh, this is great. Thanks Eric! I will watch the next episode,” he said.
Set in Godolkin University, a place for the next cohort of students with super-powered potential, is loosely inspired on the original comic book arc “We Gotta Go Now” by Garth Ennis. Not to be confused with an episode of the same name from The Boys Season 2.
The spin-off stars Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Marco Pigossi.
The first three episodes of Gen V aired on September 29, with the final five airing weekly until November 3.
Elsewhere, a new ad-removal scheme from Amazon means Prime Video subscribers will need to pay more to watch content uninterrupted.
