The next iteration of the Doctor Who theme is expected to air on BBC Radio 2 next month. Ahead of the 60th-anniversary specials, returning composer Murray Gold has remixed the theme tune from the ground up to coincide with the return of David Tennant and RTD2 (the second era of Russell T Davies).
To align with the upcoming milestone, Jo Whiley will present a special edition of Sunday Night is Music Night on BBC Radio 2 – Doctor Who @60: A Musical Celebration (H/T The Radio Times).
The event will debut on BBC Radio 2 between 8-10pm on Sunday, October 15, and will be later available to those who miss it on BBC Sounds. A recorded version for the BBC iPlayer will be broadcast at an undisclosed date.
“As listeners to my Radio 2 show know I’m a huge Doctor Who fan, so presenting this concert is a dream come true. How better to mark the incredible 60th anniversary of the show than with this wonderful celebration of the music that has featured across the decades,” said Whiley.
“BBC Radio 2 just had to mark this momentous anniversary of one of our most-loved BBC TV series. We’re thrilled to bring the amazing BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC Singers to the station to play the memorable music of Doctor Who which we know our listeners will love,” Helen Thomas, the head of BBC Radio 2, added in a statement.
