The Radio Times has revealed a special edition to commemorate the upcoming 60th-anniversary of Doctor Who, with new images of David Tennant returning as the Tenth-turned-Fourteenth Doctor. We know little more at this stage on plot details and casting information (aside from the four brand-new casting additions announced earlier this week), but the pictures as seen in this story are enough to get Doctor Who fans eager for November.
Fans will keen to see Tennant reprise his role as the iconic Time Lord after a decade away from the character. The actor last appeared during the 50th-anniversary special in 2013. In the picture, Tennant is caught in the midst of chaos as he steps between a moving vehicle and a man in a road. The context is unclear, but a recent trailer could suggest a connection with a villain played by Neil Patrick Harris. In the other, Tennant’s updated costume and screwdriver are on display.
In a recent interview with Doctor Who Magazine, Tennant shed some light, without revealing spoilers, on the changes to his character. “The Doctor’s been three different people in the meantime, so I’m not necessarily the same version of the Doctor that I was before.”
“I’m not the Tenth Doctor now, I’m the Fourteenth. Well, strictly speaking we don’t know what the actual number is anymore, do we?”
Russell T Davies, who returns as showrunner after an absence of more than a decade, was recently praised by producer Julie Gardner for writing “amongst his best-ever work” for the fourteenth series, calling his scripts “big and extremely ambitious.”
Doctor Who can be streamed via the BBC iPlayer, with classic episodes on Britbox. What are you most excited to see from the future of the series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
