Aneurin Barnard, known recently for his role in 1899, will be joining the cast of Doctor Who. The new series, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, will also see Jemma Redgrave reprise her role as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, the Chief Scientific Officer and Head of UNIT.
In an announcement from Doctor Who’s official Twitter channel, it was confirmed that Barnard would join the long-running sci-fi series as a “mysterious” figure by the name of Roger ap Gwilliam. The 35-year-old Welsh actor has previously appeared in Christopher Nolan’s war epic, Dunkirk, The Goldfinch, and Peaky Blinders.
Redgrave, whose other roles include stints in Bramwell, Holby City, and Howards End, first appeared in Doctor Who in “The Power of Three” in 2012 before making recurring appearances throughout Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker’s tenures in the series, including the 50th-anniversary special in 2013. Most recently, Redgrave appeared in Whittaker’s final episode, “The Power of the Doctor.”

Russell T Davies recently played down fan concerns following Disney’s acquisition of international streaming rights for Doctor Who, telling fans, “you haven’t watched a drama on British television in 20 years that hasn’t had American notes on it.
