Christopher Miller, a producer for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has weighed in on comments suggesting, due to creative difficulties behind the scenes, the third film in the Spider-Verse series would be delayed until 2027. Taking to Twitter, Miller confirmed simply: “Nothing has been scrapped. The reels are coming along nicely.”
Miller, in an interview released by ComicBook in June 2023 with producer Phil Lord, delivered their verdicts on initial reports, following the release of Across the Spider-Verse, suggesting that the third film would fail to hit the targeted release date.
“I would say that just like we’re going to take the time necessary to make Beyond the Spider-Verse great,” Lord said. This was followed by Miller finalising the answer. “And we won’t back into a release date that doesn’t fit.”
Speaking to Deadline in March, Brian Tyree Henry, who voices Jeff Morales in the films, shared an update on Beyond the Spider-Verse. “It’s in the works, for sure, and that one is even more epic than the last,” he said.
In February, Shameik Moore, who voices Miles Morales, told ScreenRant during the Sony premiere for Madame Web that fans could “expect Miles and Gwen. You can expect everything you’re expecting [from] the continuation from the second one.”
“You can expect to see The Spot. You can expect some action-packed energy and some dilemmas and problems to solve.”
Miller shared an update (via Jonathan Sim on Twitter) in December 2023, confirming the third film was “in production” and the team was “really excited about where the story is going. I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy and it’s as emotional as the other ones. We’re knee-deep in it.”
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was scheduled for release on March 29, 2024. The release window was later revised for July 2023, in light of the WGA writers’ and SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike. A release date is yet to be confirmed.
