A flash drive containing eerie found-footage teasers for an untitled horror concept, delivered to the team at Bloody Disgusting, has prompted online speculation that a third sequel in the Creep series (the oddball found-footage Netflix films from Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice), may be in development.
However, after the outlet shared a second clip on Twitter, they confirmed that the footage (we hope for the sole purposes of marketing) was “NOT part of the Creep franchise.”
While this update may burst the proverbial bubbles of the Creep fanbase, the grainy footage in each clip bears a resemblance to the Duplass-helmed horror series. The first clip features a young woman in a red dress walking out of a house to her car on the drive. From a distance, she is filmed from a car.
Heavy breathing, presumably coming from the person recording the footage, can be heard in the background, and while we never see their face, it is plausible they may be wearing a mask.
In the second clip, also shot from within a vehicle, a woman walks past a house, before the footage switches to an extreme close-up of a window, as the woman cuts across a room, oblivious to the camera outside.
Released in 2014 and 2017, the critically acclaimed Creep films were a joint collaboration between Duplass and Brice, who share respective writing and directing credits across both films.
Online speculation has been rife following the reveal of the clips: “It’s either Creep 3 or Girl Leaves Work And Goes To Twenty Four Hour Fitness Before Hitting Whole Foods and Then Home 2,” one social media user replies. “Either Creep 3 or Sinister 3. Either way I’m excited,” writes another.
“It’s giving me Peachfuzz vibes!!” tweeted another, a reference to the deadly alter ego Josef (Mark Duplass), assumes in the films. Others are less convinced by the footage to believe Creep 3 is in the works. “I feel like it’s something VHS related,” they write, referring to the V/H/S anthology series.
