The first teaser trailer for Thunderbolts* has arrived. The footage is rife with action, humour, and intrigue, setting the scene for a new superhero ensemble years in the making. Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), returns to the MCU for the first time since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in 2021, as the soon-to-be Thunderbolts* individually search for purpose and contend with past mistakes.
We see John Walker/U.S Agent (Wyatt Russell), now a father, struggling with his failed attempt at becoming the next Captain America, Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), feeling dissatisfied before Marvel’s forgotten heroes eventually find common ground, operating as a unit under Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who has made a multitude of scattered appearances in the MCU post-Endgame.
Watch the trailer below:
“We were brought up with this belief that there are good guys and there are bad guys,” Valentina declares as the Thunderbolts arrive at a lavish penthouse, and stand together for the mandatory superhero group pose (not seen one of those in a while). “But eventually, you come to realize that there are bad guys, and there are worse guys – and nothing else.”
“There is something wrong with me, an emptiness, I’m just drifting, and I don’t have purpose,” Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) says, as footage featuring our renegade heroes cross our screen. “I thought throwing myself into work was the answer.”
The trailer delivers new glimpses at Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) last seen alongside Pugh in Black Widow, Hannah John-Kamen phasing in and out of the action as The Ghost (last seen six years ago in Ant-Man and the Wasp), and most notably, the arrival of Bob/Sentry (Lewis Pullman of Salem’s Lot and Top Gun: Maverick fame), who joins the film.
Thunderbolts* arrives in cinemas on May 5, 2025, and is directed by Jake Schreier.
