Thor: Love and Thunder has a new trailer – and it gives us our first glimpse at Gorr the God Butcher. If the name alone isn’t enough to conjure the idea of a formidable villain, then Christian Bale’s appearance in the trailer should be. For those familiar with his comic book counterpart, Gorr is on a mission to wipe out the gods. So it’s looking like a bad day for Thor as he comes face to face with Bale’s villain.
Since the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor is back in his prime. Thor has lost his beer belly ‘dad bod’, as Korg puts it, and replaced it with his ‘god bod’. He’s ready to reclaim his title as the one and only Thor right before Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) returns as Lady Thor. To make matters worse, Jane has the power to summon Mjölnir.
The trailer poses big questions for her character. Where has Jane Foster been in the past eight years, was she caught in the five-year snap courtesy of Thanos, and could this explain her connection to Mjölnir?
The trailer is plush with sparkly colour palettes we’ve become accustomed to from the mind of Taika Waititi. However, in contrast, the trailer further teases an eerie, black and white fight sequence between Thor and Bale’s Gorr.
Russell Crowe makes a fleeting appearance in the trailer, and with a flick of his hand, he can remove Thor’s clothes. There’s no sign of Loki but with the multiverse making cosmic waves in the MCU, it’s not out of the question for the God of Mischief will return.
Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth solo film for Chris Hemsworth, stars Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Taika Waititi, Chris Pratt, Jeff Goldblum, Russell Crowe, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Cate Blanchett, and Karen Gillan. Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on Friday 8th July 2022. For more Marvel content, take a look at FlickLuster’s review for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
