A new photo caught on the set of The Walking Dead’s Rick and Michonne spin-off has reunited Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira for the first time in almost five years. In a photo shared by Dead City AMC (who credited TWDU Filming Updates for the image), Lincoln and Gurira can be seen below running from a couple of flesh-eating zombies, or walkers, to use the show’s official terminology.
The spin-off, which has yet to obtain an official title or release date, will mark the first time the two characters have shared the screen together since Andrew Lincoln’s explosive departure from the show in Season 9, followed by Danai Gurira’s exit in Season 10, right before the climax to the Whisperer War arc.

The series will, however, take place at an unspecified date in the future since the parent series installed numerous time jumps after Lincoln’s exit in 2018. In surprise cameos filmed for The Walking Dead’s series finale last year, the two characters charted different parts of the world of search of each other. A CRM helicopter tracked Rick on the seafront, and Michonne was seen on horseback heading for a swarm of walkers.
“This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living,” the official synopsis for the spin-off teases, courtesy of a report from Comic Book.
As fans of the horror drama wait for the Rick and Michonne story, Maggie and Negan’s New York series, Dead City, is scheduled to debut sometime in June 2023, and Daryl Dixon’s France spin-off, fronted by Norman Reedus, remains on course to premiere sometime this year.
