The Walking Dead: Maggie & Negan Spin-Off Gets New Title

The Walking Dead’s spin-off featuring Negan and Maggie has received a new title – and will no longer be called Isle of the DeadAnnounced back in March, the six-part series starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will now be titled The Walking Dead: Dead City.

The new logo for the spin-off, currently filming in New Jersey, was unveiled on Instagram, seen further below. The series, set in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, would have been the first show in the franchise to ditch the “Walking Dead” phrase.

While the updated title is a tad uninspiring, this shouldn’t deter away from what’s promised to be a “madhouse” story. This is according to Scott Gimple, the Chief Content Officer for AMC’s The Walking Dead Universe, as recently reported by FlickLuster. “There’s a lot of action. There are zip lines, the walkers are insane. The rats in that city are insane.” Gimple says.

Cohan, who has played Maggie Rhee since Season 2 in The Walking Dead, said at the time of the announcement that she was “thrilled to partner with Dan McDermott and the team at AMC on the next chapter in ‘The Walking Dead’ Universe.”

Morgan, recently cast in a guest role for The Boys Season 4, described it as “such a ride walking in Negan’s shoes, I’m beyond excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren. Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? The greatest city in the world?? The backdrop is amazing, but it’s the story that Eli Jorné cooked up that is even better.”

The Walking Dead: Dead City is scheduled to premiere in 2023 on AMC and AMC+, while the parent series is slated to debut on October 2 – with the final eight episodes of Season 11 airing weekly and completing the trilogy.
