A brand-new spin-off to The Walking Dead has been confirmed by AMC and will star Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Maggie and Negan. As reported by Variety. the show has been announced under the working title “Isle of the Dead.” Set in Manhattan, the six-part series will debut on AMC and AMC Plus sometime in 2023. Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios at AMC Networks describes the series as “a very big day” for the show.
McDermott hails “Isle of the Dead” as “another compelling series to this collection”, while it further “extends our storytelling around two unforgettable characters fans have grown to love, hate or hate and then love in Maggie and Negan, brilliantly inhabited by Lauren and Jeffrey. The show, according to McDermott further explores a “corner of this universe located on the island of Manhattan, with an iconic skyline that takes on a very different meaning when viewed through the lens of a zombie apocalypse.”
Eli Jorné, an executive producer on The Walking Dead since Season 10, will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on “Isle of the Dead.” Jorné has previously worked on Dummy, Huge in France, and Son of Zorn. Cohan and Morgan will serve as executive producers alongside The Walking Dead’s former chief content officer, Scott M. Gimple.
“Eli has created a chaotic, beautiful, grimy madhouse of the dead for Negan, Maggie, and fans of the show eager to discover an unseen and insane world of the TWD Universe,” Gimple says. He described Cohan and Morgan as “fantastic collaborators and now, we bring that collaboration to the next level with a series that will take these characters to their limits with the world — and each other.”
