The Toxic Avenger Reboot Gets Gory First Teaser

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming The Toxic Avenger reboot has dropped online, and as teasers go, this one is quite a jaw-dropper. No, it is literally a jaw dropper since we see the titular avenger, played by Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), enter a restaurant and kill an armed extremist by ripping his jaw clean off.

For the most part, the teaser keeps us away from the action. Instead, the bloody carnage inside the restaurant is left to our imagination as pulverised bodies slam against glass windows.

The teaser chronicles the elusive Toxic Avenger through breaking news reports and eyewitness statements. “I heard gunshots, saw blood,” one eye witness tells a news station, while another adds: “Handsome fella had his arm ripped off like wet bread. The creature ran off into the night.”

“He looks like a f**ked up hot dog!” another eyewitness proclaims. “While the original film followed the fate of Melvin Ferd Junko III, who goes from zero to toxic hero in a case of bullying gone awry, Macon Blair’s contemporary take follows a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength all his own,” a statement by Troma, the production company behind Lloyd Kaufman’s 1984 film explained (H/T GamesRadar).

The new iteration of The Toxic Avenger focuses on Winston Gooze (Dinklage), who develops super-powers and assumes the moniker after falling into a vat of toxic waste. Described as a “timely reimagining” in a synopsis, The Toxic Avenger is “up to its eyeballs in environmental themes as Winston goes up against the evil forces of greed and corruption to save his son, his friends, and his community.”

The Toxic Avenger further stars Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne, Kevin Bacon, and Elijah Wood. The film will be written and directed by Macon Blair and produced by Legendary Pictures and Aroma Entertainment. No release date has been set.
