The Boys Poke Fun At Morbius Re-Release Flop

The Boys’ Vought International Twitter account has made light of the commercially unsuccessful re-release of Morbius. To promote the show’s fictional superhero movie Dawn of the Seven – a parody of Marvel’s Avengers and other superhero team-up films – Vought International has re-released the movie until June 30 with a limited-time discount code.

“Don’t miss your chance to re-live all the action: use code ITS-MAEVIN-TIME to get a discount on your second ticket until June 30.” the post is captioned. The reference to Queen Maeve’s character is a spin on the “Morbin Time” meme that circulated the internet following the unsuccessful re-release of Morbius. Beneath the caption is a photo of the Seven in front of a green screen, including Homelander, Queen Maeve, A-Train, Starlight, and Black Noir.

“It’s Morbin’ Time” is a catchphrase from the film, inspired by the iconic Power Rangers’ catchphrase “It’s Morphin’ Time.” The line has led to an internet frenzy of memes attributed to the film – with The Boys’ referring to this prevalent pop culture moment in the tweet.

Morbius, starring Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, and Tyrese Gibson, was received poorly during its first theatrical release and was considered a commercial flop – sweeping in more than $163.8 million at the box office. See what I did there? Sony re-released the film into 1,000 theatres on June 3, 2022. The film pulled in $300,000, performing poorly the second time.
