Tales of the Walking Dead has an official trailer – and the anthology series promises to be as gritty and gory as the parent show that preceded it. The spin-off’s most vital link to The Walking Dead will be the appearance of Samantha Morton, who reprises her role as Alpha – the leader of the Whisperers, a savage clan of survivors who wore skin masks of the dead to hide their appearances among hordes of zombies. Her story is set long before the Whisperer War as she and her daughter Lydia navigate a dangerous, post-pandemic world.
Tales of the Walking Dead, courtesy of an official synopsis, will feature “six original one-hour standalone episodes focused on both new and established characters within the walker apocalypse.” Each story will establish its “own distinct tone and point of view – but the stakes are high in each story, pushing new, indelible characters with relentless, life-threatening choices and situations.”
Another story will feature Terry Crews as a survival specialist who’d anticipated the fall of civilisation, while Anthony Edwards plays a survivor searching for answers by studying the dead. Perhaps this particular episode will flesh out (no pun intended) some backstory into the virus and what caused the pandemic.
The series further stars Olivia Munn, Parker Posey, Poppy Liu, Jillian Bell, Loan Chabanol, Embeth Davidtz, Jessie T. Usher, Daniella Pineda, and Danny Ramirez. The series will be executive produced by the former chief content officer for The Walking Dead, Scott Gimple, who’ll work alongside Channing Powell as showrunner. The first two episodes will air back to back on AMC and AMC+ on August 14, with the subsequent four episodes premiering weekly.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC and AMC+ from October 2 – with the final seven episodes of Season 11 airing weekly. As reported by FlickLuster, an official Comic-Con trailer for Season 11C teases the last batch of episodes as the war against the Commonwealth reaches its endgame.
