Ryan Reynolds has taken to social media to argue the case that stunt performers deserve an award category for their work. The Deadpool & Wolverine actor shared a lengthy post to X (formerly Twitter) in favour of recognising stunt performers in the industry.
“Stunt work doesn’t have a category at The Oscars and I hope that’ll change someday,” Reynolds writes, adding photos of the cast and stunt doubles behind the scenes on the film. “So many films have smashed it this year. Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and Chaplin were stunt performers as well as filmmakers. Telling stories with their entire bodies.”
Speaking about the stunt team behind the Deadpool & Wolverine film, which debuted in cinemas last month, the Canadian actor said the team “over-delivered” in their efforts. “A lot of them are friends I’ve worked with for years and I’ll spend the rest of my days doodling their names in my Heidi Stationary, dotting all the “i’s” with little hearts.”
“I’ve worked with Alex Kyshkovych since the very first [Deadpool]. He not only doubles me — he’s the Fight Coordinator. I’d take a sledgehammer to the face for Alex. Or rather, I’d ask Alex to take a sledgehammer to the face for Alex,” Reynolds continues.
Deadpool & Wolverine stars Reynolds alongside Hugh Jackman, who reprised his role as Logan/Wolverine for the first time since Logan (2017). Recurring stars Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, and Leslie Uggams return for the film, and are joined by Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Dafne Keen, Jennifer Garner, Wesley Snipes, Chris Evans and Channing Tatum.
