Peter Capaldi has said portraying the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who was “much more fun than being me” in a new interview with The Radio Times. Capaldi, 66, is set to reprise his role as Gideon Shepherd in The Devil’s Hour on Prime Video, but for three years, was known to a worldwide audience as the Twelfth Doctor, a grumpy, often sarcastic, but ultimately, well-loved incarnation of the famous Time Lord. Capaldi has put it on the record that he will not return to the show but has fond memories of his tenure.
In collaboration with Steven Moffat, who served as showrunner at the time, Capaldi featured alongside companions Clara (Jenna Coleman), Bill (Pearl Mackie), and Nardole (Matt Lucas), taking over from Matt Smith in 2014. “It was just an incredible experience. Suddenly, you’re in the middle of this fantastical world, surrounded by people who love Doctor Who.”

“I was watching Tom Baker talking about something, and he said that when he was Doctor Who he would do tons and tons of publicity and stuff, because being Doctor Who was much more fun than being Tom Baker, and I would say the same, probably, being Doctor Who is much more fun than being me.”
“It would be a hard part to sustain, I think, forever, but you do see the best of people, which is lovely.”
The Devil’s Hour stars Jessica Raine, Phil Dunster, Benjamin Chivers, Nikesh Patel, Barbara Marten, Alex Ferns, Meera Syal, Thomas Dominique, Rhiannon Harper-Rafferty, and Brand Bendell.
