The State Of Marvel’s Armor Wars Has Left Don Cheadle In The Dark

Two years after it was announced by Marvel, Don Cheadle is still in the dark about the future of Armor Wars. So much so, when asked for an update on the film, Cheadle, known for portraying JamesRhodeyRhodes in the MCU, had this to say in an interview with TVLine:You can find out and let me know.”

It is understood the series has now been reworked, or as Cheadle puts it, “switchedinto a feature-length film. I don’t know, I’m not sure where anything is right now. I think things are going through a lot of changes, and we’ll see what happens, we’ll see what it is.”

After Rhodey was revealed as a Skrull duplicate in Secret Invasion, Cheadle was asked how he felt about the direction his character had taken.Uh… you know, there was no… it wasn’tdemand. It was a request. What do you think about playing this? And it was to set up stuff in the following thing.”

“So, if the following thing happens, and all those things were set up, then that’s one thing. If, as you said, it doesn’t, then we can talk about how I feel about it after!”

In November 2022, Marvel producer Nate Moore outlined the reasoning for switching the series into a cinematic feature (via GamesRadar). Moore cited ideas thatfelt too bigto condense into an episodic format and a reduced budget to work with. You know, our Disney Plus shows are awesome, and we love them, but the budgets are not the same as the features. That’s no secret,Moore revealed in a chat with The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast.

“When you’re talking about a show that wants to be about seeing all the cool armors and Don Cheadle interacting with all these armors and, sort of, the legacy of Tony Stark? That became kind of cost prohibitive to do as a show.”

Moore later discussed the concept of a multi-story arc, suggestingan Armor Wars runcould helpleverage the ideas of that movie and affect other movies down the line.”
