Inside No.9 Returns For Festive Special In A Haunted Church

To celebrate the festive period, an Inside No.9 Christmas Special, titled “The Bones of St Nicholas, will be airing later in the month, thanks to a story from The Radio Times. The anthology series, written by and starring Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, will return on December 22 and feature Simon Callow and Shobna Gulati as guest stars camping out in a haunted church on Christmas Eve.

It’s a spooky premise, with Pemberton and Shearsmith playing Dr. Jasper Parkway and Pierce, an uninvited guest, respectively. Callow, best known for his roles in Doctor Who and Four Weddings and a Funeral, plays a warden called Dick, and Gulati, known for her role in Coronation Street, plays Posy.

Speaking about the festive episode, Pemberton said the story came “together in a lovely way and is a real treat for Christmas. I think it will be great to settle down and watch on a late December night and have your spine tingled.”

Pemberton continued: We discussed many, many different ways of presenting a Christmas special and the one we were really excited by was Christmas ghost stories.”

Gulati called the experience of working on Inside No.9 as “very special,” and Callow described the anthology series, which first aired in 2014, as a “very sparky, original series” which could “always provokes gargles of admiration.”

The eighth series of Inside No.9 is expected to debut in 2023. An announcement in June confirmed that the series would be renewed for at least two more runs following the conclusion of Series 7.
