Inside No.9 has been renewed for two more seasons by the BBC – the Radio Times reports. The news comes only a day after the show’s current seventh series aired its finale, meaning there’ll be at least twelve more episodes of the anthology series to come. In a joint statement by the show’s creators, Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton described the news as “the greatest plot twist ever,” which takes “Inside No.9 to series 9,” they added.
The series debuted on BBC One in 2014. Since the show launched, Shearsmith and Pemberton described it as “the greatest gift to conjure these stories into being and we are thrilled there’s still an appetite for more.”
“What horrible surprises are there left to uncover? We remain as delighted and curious as you to find out.” they teased. The BBC Commissioning Editor for the BBC added that they were looking “forward to discovering where the colossal comedy brains of Reece and Steve take us next, in 12 new instalments of a show now firmly established as an all-time great.”
Executive Producer of Inside No.9, Josh Cole, described Shearsmith and Pemberton as “extraordinary talents.” He added that “few comedies reach nine series, and even fewer scale the hare-raising heights of Inside No. 9. We’re delighted to be making two more series of a true comedy classic.”
With two more series on the horizon – an American version of Inside No.9 is in the works. The remake is “in the development stages” between Lionsgate Television and BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions. Pemberton and Shearsmith will serve as executive producers alongside Angie Stephenson and Josh Cole.
