George R.R. Martin Shares Update On The Winds Of Winter, Of Sorts…

George R.R. Martin has shared an update on the long-awaited The Winds of Winter, the latest novel in the Game of Thrones series. Sadly, while we have an update to report, readers awaiting the next chapter in the fantasy series should manage their expectations.

In a post shared via Martin’s Not a Blog, the writer reflected on the summer months, following a trip to Europe, during which time the author visited the set of a brand-new Thrones spin-off.

“Writing came hard, and though I did produce some new pages on both THE WINDS OF WINTER (yes) and BLOOD & FIRE (the sequel to FIRE & BLOOD, the second part of my Targaryen history), I would have liked to turn out a lot more,Martin wrote.

“My various television projects ate up most of those months. Some of that was pleasant (DARK WINDS, and THE HEDGE KNIGHT), most of it was not,he adds.

In a conversation with the Oxford Writers’ House in August, a discussion on Thrones led to the question of what Martin would change if he had the opportunity (timestamped here, courtesy of GamesRadar).

Candidly, this is what he had to say:I don’t know, I could probably change more than one thing,he replied. If I could change one thing about one of my books I’d have them finished.”

Beyond The Winds of Winter, Martin intends to write A Dream of Spring, a follow-up to the previous novel. The eighth season of Game of Thrones served as the finale to the fantasy series, concluding the story in 2019.
