The first teaser for Dexter: Original Sin has arrived, giving us our first look at Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone) as the titular serial killer-to-be, documenting his rise through a forensics internship at Miami Metro PD in the 1990s. “I am a killer, but I wasn’t born this way, I was made,” he says as elevator doors open, and Dexter looks out with a secretive smile. “They say it takes a village, to raise a killer.”
We get our first impressions of Captain Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey) and CSI Chief Tanya Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar). A few familiar faces from the original series crop up, including Maria LaGuerta (Christina Milian), Angel Batista (James Martinez), Vince Masuka (Alex Shimizu), Christian Slater (Harry Morgan), and Molly Brown (Debra Morgan).
In a synopsis from Showtime (via The Playlist), the prequel “follows Dexter as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness.”
“With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”
Michael C. Hall is credited as “the inner voice of Dexter” and will not physically appear in the series. Fans will need to wait a while longer for his physical return to the series in Dexter: Resurrection, the fourth spin-off still in the works.
Original Sin is still in production and is expected to run for 10 episodes, similar to the most recent Dexter spin-off, New Blood, which aired at the end of 2021.
Dexter: Original Sin debuts on December 13, 2024.
