Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving Has A Darkly Festive First Trailer

The first trailer for Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving has dropped online, and as teasers go, this one is almost certain to put you off your Christmas turkeys. Inspired by a fake trailer from Roth during the Grindhouse Double Feature in 2007, Thanksgiving is now a fully-realised feature-length film (H/T Bloody Disgusting).

“After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday,” a description for the slasher flick reads. In the trailer, our killer, known by the moniker of John Carver, prepares a Thanksgiving meal with a themed apron and gloved hands.

The seemingly ordinary food prep for Thanksgiving escalates into something darker as the trailer reveals a woman’s body lying on a table. Throughout the trailer, John Carver (who resembles V from V for Vendetta) orchestrates a violent murdering spree against the townsfolk.

A group of teenage friends soon discover themselves as targets of John Carver, tagged in ominous social media posts as the killer dispatches them in gruesome, darkly resourceful ways. In typical Eli Roth fashion (the same man who helmed the Hostel series), his latest directorial promises to be a gore fest.

Written by Roth and Jeff Rendell, Thanksgiving stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Gershon.

Thanksgiving arrives in cinemas on November 17, 2023. Produced by TriStar Pictures and Spyglass Media Group, the film will debut on November 16 for Australian audiences.
