Matthew Jacobs, the writer responsible for the 1996 Doctor Who television film, will return to the series alongside Paul McGann for an audio drama boxset of Eighth Doctor adventures. Courtesy of a story from The Radio Times, Jacobs, 68, will be writing an episode of the series entitled Puccini and the Doctor.
A wealth of guest stars are due to provide their talents in the series, including Tim McInnerny (known for his role in the 2008 story Planet of the Ood, comedies including Notting Hill and Blackadder, and horror flick Severance). India Fisher and Jaye Griffiths will feature as companions Charley Pollard and Lady Audacity Montague, respectively.
David Richardson, a producer for the series, described it as “brilliant to have Matthew Jacobs return to the series to write Puccini and the Doctor – a man so dedicated that he woke up at 4am in Los Angeles to listen in to our studio recordings!”
“He’s given us a lovely and imaginative tale, which feels very much in the spirit of the Eighth Doctor TV movie,” Richardson added.
Jacobs described the iconic Time Lord character as “an integral part of my life, so it’s been fascinating over the years to see it grow and grow. Paul has kept the Doctor alive at Big Finish in a marvellous way and he has become so much more sophisticated as a character than when we were starting.”
He added he was “over the moon” when approached to pen the story for the boxset. The series, titled Deadly Strangers, will feature two other stories written by Lisa McMullin (Women’s Day Off) and Lauren Mooney and Stewart Pringle (The Gloaming).
Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Deadly Strangers can be pre-ordered through Big Finish.
