Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Sets A Disney+ Record

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has a new record on Disney Plus, becoming the most-watched Marvel film premiere on the streaming platform of all time. The 2022 sequel surpasses other popular Marvel titles on the streamer. These include Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. In a press release from Disney, they confirmed that the Ryan Coogler-directed sequel attained this milestone based on hours streamed within the first five days.

The film became available on Disney Plus on February 1. This is maybe not much of a surprise considering Wakanda Forever became the first film of 2022 to maintain the number one spot at the domestic box office for four weeks, as previously reported by FlickLuster.

Wakanda Forever picks up the story in the aftermath of King T’Challa’s death, as the Wakandans protect their country from interfering world powers and the emergence of a new threat, Namor, the King of the Talon, an underwater civilisation. A sequel has yet to be green-lit by Marvel, but Letitia Wright recently suggested a third film could be in the works. “It’s gonna take a while, but I’m really excited for you guys to see that,” she said.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released on November 11, 2022, and stars Letitia Wright, Tenoch Huerta, Michael B. Jordan, Dominique Thorne, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Martin Freeman, and Danai Gurira.
