A new trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has debuted online – and the footage teases the rise of a terrifying dynasty. Marvel’s next big bad, Kang (Jonathan Majors), is calling the shots, delivering an air of menace effortlessly as Scott Lang’s titular Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) fights to keep those he loves safe from Kang. With Scott, his daughter Cassie and the Van Dyne clan pulled unwillingly into the Quantum realm once again, their only chance of survival hinges on besting Kang’s supervillain schemes, who looks more than a match for Scott’s mini-sized superhero.
After becoming trapped in the Quantum Realm for five years during the Thanos snap saga, Scott returned to the world to discover he’d missed years of Cassie’s childhood. This plot thread appears to be a key plot line in Quantumania, as Scott considers Kang’s offer to give him “the one thing you want,” which is time. “He can rewrite existence and shatter timelines,” Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) later says, warning Scott that Kang is not one to be trusted. Aside from the introduction of the MCU’s next big bad guy, the trailer delivers a couple of blink-and-you’ll-miss-them moments of MODOK, known by his full title as the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. He can be seen masked and unmasked at two points in the trailer (57 seconds and 1:46, to be precise). We can also anticipate a showdown between Kang and Lang (not intentional), with Scott telling the supervillain that he doesn’t need to defeat Kang, provided both of them “have to lose.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will serve as the first film in Phase 5 and arrive in cinemas on February 17, 2023, starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Kathryn Newton, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Bill Murray, and Jonathan Majors.
