Andrew Garfield has revealed that Tobey Maguire was “my guy” during his heyday as an “impressionable actor” in drama school. “Tobey [Maguire] was my guy. I was in drama school and I was watching his films when I was a young, impressionable actor, and I was practicing being him,” Garfield revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair.
To balance the scales, the 41-year-old actor had good things to say about Tom Holland, who portrayed Peter Parker in the Homecoming trilogy.
Garfield said Holland’s work in the series was “incredible as well. I kind of love them both equally, but I think because it was at a formative part of my life, Tobey…that’s my Spider-Man.”

Last year, Maguire revealed his love for the Spider-Man franchise, and as reported by FlickLuster, threw his hat in the ring, should a call come his way from Marvel.
“I love these films and I love all of the different series. If these guys called me and said, “Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?” or “Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?”, it would be a “yes!” Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?”
Following a two-film stint in The Amazing Spider-Man series (with planned films in the series abruptly cancelled), Garfield returned to reprise his role as Peter Parker alongside Maguire and Holland for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Garfield’s latest film, We Live in Time, alongside Florence Pugh (who reprises her MCU role in the upcoming Thunderbolts*), debuted in U.S. cinemas on October 11, 2024, and will arrive in the UK on January 1, 2025.
