The Walking Dead Will End In 2022 – Spin-Offs In The Works

The Walking Dead will be ending in 2022. An official announcement released via social media confirmed that the show would run an extended 24-episode Season 11. Current show-runner Angela Kang is set to take the reins of a new spin-off series starring Norman Reedus, (Daryl), and Melissa McBride, (Carol Peletier) in 2023.

Kang’s untitled project will be one of four direct spin-offs to its parent show, which begun a whole decade earlier in late 2010. Alongside The Walking Dead: World Beyond, an anthology series, Tales of the Walking Dead, is also in the works. Then, as if this is not enough, there are the three films that will focus on the show’s former lead, Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, who bowed out back in Season 9.

“It’s been 10 years ‘gone bye’; what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that,” the show’s chief content officer Scott M. Gimple stated.

“What’s clear is that this show has been about the living, made by a passionate cast, team of writer-producers, producers and crew, bringing to life the vision put forth by Robert Kirkman in his brilliant comic — and supported by the best fans in the world.”

Gimple cited that The Walking Dead still has “a lot of thrilling story left to tell”, with a future “of more Walking Dead — brand new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices and new mythologies.”

“This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres. Evolution is upon us. The Walking Dead lives.”

Angela Kang expressed her excitement at being able to work with the “brilliant writers, producers, directors, cast and crew to bring this epic final chapter of Robert Kirkman’s story to life for our fans over the next two years.”

In the meantime, The Walking Dead’s sixteenth episode, “A Certain Doom” is due to air on October 4, with six more episodes following what would have been the tenth season’s finale, prior to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond is slated to air from October 4, with Fear The Walking Dead’s sixth season premiering a week after, (October 11).
