The first trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City brings Maggie and Negan’s journey to the Big Apple and promises a sinister villain and a new walker variant. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and the former Savior tyrant Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) travel by sea into a stunningly zombie-ridden New York City. The once thriving concrete jungle is now a metropolis occupied by the dead. A brutalist survivor faction led by The Croat (Željko Ivanek), a man with ties to Negan’s past is responsible for the disappearance of Maggie’s son, Hershel (Logan Kim).
As Maggie embarks on a rescue mission, she’s forced to set aside her differences with Negan and work with him to locate her son. Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan may be grinning, but he’s a wanted man in New York City. The Savior tyrant has a bounty on him. Plus, to make matters worse, the dead are not far behind. A new walker variant is teased in the final seconds of the footage – a grotesque multi-human hybrid unlike anything ever seen in The Walking Dead.

Late into the parent show’s swansong season, a variant walker was introduced with the ability to lift rocks and break glass windows, but this is something entirely new. We’ve got a liberal dose of walker-themed horrors, an undead fight club, and a man being tossed over a balcony, which is pretty much everything fans expect from the horror drama by this stage.
The Walking Dead: Dead City is scheduled to premiere on June 18, 2023 on AMC and AMC+. Mahina Napoleon, Karina Ortiz, Gaius Charles, Jonathan Higginbotham, and Trey Santiago-Hudson also star.
