The Rick And Michonne Spin-Off Gets A Production Date

The upcoming untitled spin-off to The Walking Dead featuring Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) has a production date locked in. According to Gurira in an interview with SELF (via Comic Book), the series will begin filming in January 2023, further adding that pre-production on the spin-off is “in high gear.”

Lincoln and Gurira will serve as executive producers on the series, while Scott M. Gimple, who previously served as The Walking Dead showrunner through Seasons 4 to 8, will helm the spin-off. In a statement, Lincoln described his tenure playing Rick Grimes as “the most extraordinary journey.”

“I’m so excited to be returning to the screen as Rick, reuniting with Danai as Michonne, and bringing the fans an epic love story to add to the Walking Dead Universe,” the 49-year-old actor continued, who most recently appeared as Edgar in Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

Gurira added: “Michonne and this TWD family has meant so much to me, and to continue the journey of these beloved characters, alongside Scott and Andy, both creatively and in front of the camera, and bringing The Walking Dead fans something truly special is just glorious. I can’t wait to pick up the katana again.”

Gurira will be reprising her role as Okoye in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is expected to debut in cinemas on November 11, 2022. The first teaser for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was revealed during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, as previously reported by FlickLuster.
