The First Teaser For The Minecraft Movie Is Here

The first teaser of the live-action Minecraft film has been released, bringing the iconic video game to life for the silver screen, and if the above photo is any indication, the main talking point of the trailer has to be Jack Black. Plain clothed and ordinary, he might as well be playing himself, save for his name, Steve.

“Anything you can dream about here, you can make,” a voiceover explains as our characters enter a strange, cubic world of eccentric landscapes and dangers, such as cuboid sheep and Piglins. The footage offers little story information. We do, however, have a release date. A Minecraft Movie is planned for cinematic release on April 4, 2025.

You can watch the teaser below.

The cast features Garrett Garrison, otherwise known as ’The Garbage Man’, (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Dawn (Danielle Brooks), and Natalie (Emma Myers). Jennifer Coolidge, Jemaine Clement, and Kate McKinnon have been cast in undisclosed roles to round out the cast.

“Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival,” reads the official synopsis (thanks to Eurogamer). The group “find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.”

“To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative… the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.”
