By now, we’ve come to expect nothing less than a gore fest with each season of The Boys, but the show’s upcoming third season promises to be the bloodiest yet. In a chat with Collider, actor Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) gave insights into just how much blood we can expect from The Boys Season 3.
Alonso received a tip from the show’s head makeup artist, who confirmed that they used “over a gallon of blood in Season 2, believe it or not.”
Alonso adds: “Season 3, we’re already at three and a half gallons of blood. So that should give you a little indication of where it’s going.”
Now, considering how obscene some of the second season’s set pieces were, (who else remembers poor Lucy the Whale?), it’s evident the showrunners are planning big and violent things for the new season. Alonso confirms that they are almost “halfway through”, adding that the show is “grounded a lot more in story”, and “more so than the last two seasons”.
Speaking about showrunner Eric Kripke, Alonso describes his approach to the show as “getting darker and darker”, while the introduction of Jensen Ackles “allowed him to not only bring in a character historically whose pretty dark, but it also makes all of the other ensemble supes darker as well”.
Alonso speaks about filming under current pandemic restrictions, confirming that they’ve “been very lucky” and “not had any cases”, with filming pushing ahead unhindered by the virus. He adds that everyone is wearing masks indoors and outdoors and everyone also has to be tested daily, irrespective of whether they are due on set.
The Boys Season 3, as previously reported, will tackle one of the source material’s most risqué storylines, ‘Herogasm’, while the premiere episode will be titled “Payback”.
The Boys Seasons 1-2 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
