A new teaser trailer for Squid Game Season 2 has been released and invites audiences back into the twisted world of the dystopian survival thriller.
The first season was met with critical acclaim and lauded by fans upon release in September 2021. Squid Game was the most-watched Non-English Netflix TV series (as of September 22, 2024), with more than 265 billion views on the streamer, and by quite some margin in comparison to Money Heist: Part 4 and Lupin: Part 1, which sit in second and third place respectively.
The trailer, as seen below, tracks the morning routine of the Squid Game recruiter (played by Gong Yoo), as he prepares for a new day of business on a train platform, offering commuters an opportunity to “play a game” holding red and blue envelopes.
In a previous teaser released in September, Seong Gi-hun, otherwise known as Player 456 (played by Lee Jung-jae’s Gi-hun), is met at his front door by the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and returns for a new series of sadistic games.
In the first season finale, despite winning the game and preparing to board an overseas flight, Seong Gi-hun contacted those behind the games and decided to vow revenge against them.
Squid Game Season 2 is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on December 26, 2024. A third season has been confirmed (thanks to GamesRadar), with head writer, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk addressing fans in a statement:
“I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season,” he outlined. “The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
