Sony Troll Fans Waiting For News On Amazing Spider-Man 3

Expectations for a third instalment to The Amazing Spider-Man franchise have been high in the years since the beloved Andrew Garfield series abruptly ended. The introduction of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man into the MCU put to bed hopes for a third film featuring Garfield.

Fans have called for it for years, and for one shining moment very recently, it almost seemed like Sony were about to answer our prayers. A small video appeared on TikTok featuring Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, with the news of an “important announcement” on the way. So were we about to get our first update on The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in almost a decade?

Well, no. Sadly. The clip opens with the movie poster from The Amazing Spider-Man until it abruptly cuts away to Rick Astley. No guesses for which music video played. We were successfully, annoyingly, Rickrolled. Somehow, we still fall for it. As it transpires, Sony informed us that Astley released “Never Gonna Give You Up” 36 years ago this month (27 July 1987, to be accurate). So, there we have it.

We’ve learned a relatively pointless fact about an infectious pop song and nothing else. Those hopeful for another Spidey film with Garfield will need to keep waiting. However, Garfield recently shared insights into whether we could ever see another entry in the Amazing series, courtesy of an art book for Spider-Man: No Way Home. He said Spidey’s “story never ends, whether we film it or not.”

“There’s a story happening in a universe somewhere. There’s endless potential with this character and all the different iterations. So, yeah, he’s definitely out there doing something,” Garfield resumed, thanks to a Twitter post from SpiderMan3News
