Once again, we’ve got some big trailer news – and no trailer to show for it. Instead – we’ll attempt to put together a word picture for you – and let your imagination do the rest. Let’s dive into what was revealed during a panel for Secret Invasion at San-Diego Comic Con 2022.
The series sees Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury, who returns to Earth amid a new crisis. In exclusive footage officially unveiled at SDCC, thanks to a story from Gamesradar and details shared by a report from Marvel, the trailer features Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Nick Fury during a new crisis involving the reptilian shapeshifters, the Skrulls.
Ben Mendelsohn makes an appearance in the trailer as Talos, last seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and he’s searching for answers to solve the crisis. At another point in the trailer – he meets with Kingsley Ben-Adir’s villain. Backed by an entourage of heavies, Ben-Adir’s bodyguards change their appearances to look like him. Evidently, he’s up to no good.
Olivia Colman, best known for her work on Hot Fuzz and The Crown, features in a scene speaking to Nick Fury – while Emilia Clarke (Game Of Thrones) can be seen searching for someone with a gun. Don Cheadle will be reprising his role as Rhodey in a brand-new suit. Cobie Smulders – who was present on the panel, described Secret Invasion as “a darker show.”
“We’re going to get deeper into the characters. We’re going to see them in new ways, and it’s going to be an exciting thriller, and you’re never going to know who people are. Are they a Skrull? Are they a human? It’s going to be a bit of a guessing game.” she continues.
Plot details and further casting information remains a mystery. Secret Invasion is expected to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2023. The series will serve as part of Phase 5 in the MCU. The series will further star Martin Freeman, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Dermot Mulroney, and Carmen Ejogo.
