Oscar Isaac Reportedly Cast as Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid Movie

A film based on the iconic Metal Gear video game franchise has been in the works for several years, but it now looks like things are starting to move just a little bit faster. The film, which is currently in development at Sony Pictures, was previously announced to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kings of Summer, Kong: Skull Island) with a script written by Derek Connolly (the Jurassic World series) and Avi Arad (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) serving as producer. Now, it seems that the central role of skilled soldier and stealth expert Solid Snake may have been cast as well.

According to reports, Oscar Isaac, best known for his role as ace pilot Poe Dameron in the “New Trilogy” of Star Wars films, has been cast as Solid Snake. In 2019, Isaac had expressed interest in the role during an interview. This is another in a series of exciting announcements for Isaac, who is also reportedly been in talks with Marvel Studios to play the character Moon Knight in an upcoming Disney+ series.

It is currently unknown which parts of the 30+ years of series history the Metal Gear film will adapt, but Isaac’s casting has caused fans to speculate that it will adapt either the third game in the series, Metal Gear Solid, or its immediate sequel Metal Gear Solid 2. While series creator Hideo Kojima seems to have little involvement with the film’s writing or development, he has previously praised the choice of Vogt-Roberts as director.

The film is reportedly still very early in production, and it is unknown when filming will be able to begin – due both to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Isaac’s currently busy schedule. However, fans are currently excited as the casting announcement is the biggest piece of news regarding the Metal Gear Solid film to be released in a long while.
