Neil Gaiman Steps Back From Good Omens Season 3

Speaking to Amazon, Neil Gaiman, the creator of Good Omens will step back as the series handles crisis talks, first reported by Deadline, in light of recent allegations of sexual misconduct.

Starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant, filming for Prime Video fantasy-comedy had been commissioned in Scotland, with Gaiman, recognised for his work on The Sandman, American Gods, and Doctor Who.

Gaiman’s offer to Amazon, as reported, is not an admission of guilt, and the writer denies any wrongdoing. He is said to be disturbed by the accusations. Amazon are considering Gaiman’s offer, and at the time of writing, no final decisions have been made. No further statements have been released by any parties involved in the series, including representatives for Gaiman.

The latest update comes after Variety published, at the beginning of September, a decision by Disney to temporarily shut down their feature-length adaptation of The Graveyard Book, penned by Gaiman, in the wake of the controversy.

In July, Gaiman was accused of sexual assault by two women whom he’d been in consensual relationships with and has subsequently become the focus of a police investigation in New Zealand (via Tortoise Media). Another two have since come forward.

In December 2023, Good Omens was given the green light for a third and final series, with Gaiman returning to the adaptation as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, and in all likelihood, Sheen and Tennant in their lead roles.

Good Omens further stars Jon Hamm, Sam Taylor Buck, Frances McDormand, Michael McKean, Steve Pemberton, Derek Jacobi, Shelly Conn, Brian Cox, Mark Gatiss and Siân Brooke.
