Ke Huy Quan will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe next month with Loki Season 2, but the details surrounding his character, O.B, are a secret. As it transpires, the 52-year-old American actor, who rose to fame as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, has had high hopes to join the MCU for “many, many years.”
“All the way back to when the first Iron Man came out,” Quan admitted during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The actor has been an avid fan since the MCU launched in 2008, having seen “all the movies in the theaters. I’ve seen all the films. I constantly watch on YouTube how passionate and enthusiastic these fans are. So to be up on stage today with Sophia and Tom and Owen and Kevin and to be on the receiving end of that… it’s just been incredible.”
Loki Season 2 is set to drop on Disney Plus on October 6, the second-to-last Marvel television series to debut in 2023, succeeded by a second run of What If…? in December. Kevin Wright, an executive producer on the series, outlined some details on O.B’s character, who can be found tinkering away with technology in the deepest parts of the TVA.
“His job is basically every piece of tech, every computer, everything that is running at the TVA,” Wright explained, adding that O.B “either designed it, or he fixes it and keeps it running.”
Kevin Feige was quickly off the mark to secure Quan’s availability following the theatrical release of Everything Everywhere All at Once, which secured Quan an award for Best Supporting Actor at the 95th Academy Awards.
“I think Kevin Feige made a call maybe April 12, just to follow up and say, ‘Please, please do this,’” Wright said. “Little did we know, Ke is apparently already a giant Marvel fan and was a big fan of Loki season 1.”
Alongside Quan, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston’s titular God of Mischief, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Tara Strong, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, with Jonathan Majors and Owen Wilson.
