Doctor Who’s Centenary Episode Has A Title

The title for the Doctor Who Centenary special has been confirmed, according to a report from The Radio Times. To celebrate 100 years of programming at the BBC and to mark Jodie Whittaker’s final outing as the first female Time Lord, “The Power Of The Doctor” will serve as her last episode. At this stage, a release date for the finale has yet to be confirmed.

Chris Chibnall, who took over the role as showrunner from Steven Moffat in 2017, will also bow from the series alongside series composer Segun Akinola, who recently confirmed that he had scored his final episode with the long-running sci-fi show.

As far as the title goes, or what it could allude to, remains unknown, with plot details remaining scarce for the big ending. We know that Sophie Aldred, who played Ace and served alongside the Seventh Doctor, and Janet Fielding, who bowed out from the classic series in 1984, among other guest stars, will return for the Centenary episode.

As reported by FlickLuster, Doctor Who’s current executive producer, Matt Strevens, described Whittaker’s final adventure in the TARDIS as a “massive feature-length epic – it was huge to shoot – with lots of surprises for fans of all ages.” Jodie gets a really good send-off. I think it will push everybody’s buttons.”

More recently, in an interview with The Radio Times, producer Nikki Wilson weighed in on the upcoming last episode. “It was really important that we gave Jodie a good send-off,” Wilson said. “She’s been so phenomenal as the Doctor, we just wanted to do her justice with a really thrilling, high-stakes journey for her final episode. And I really feel we’ve delivered that.”

Doctor Who is available to stream on the BBC iPlayer, with classic episodes available to stream on Britbox. For more Doctor Who content, take a look at Flickluster’s review for “Legend of the Sea Devils.”
