Doctor Who Icon Plans Comeback 60 Years Later – “Hopefully it’s going to be ‘yes’.”

Carole Ann Ford, the last living cast member from the William Hartnell era which launched Doctor Who in 1963, remains hopeful that her character, Susan Foreman, may yet return to the sci-fi series, as the 60th anniversary of her final appearance on the show draws closer (December 26, 1964, the sixth and final serial of The Dalek Invasion of Earth, for those curious).

Ford portrayed the Doctor’s granddaughter from the show’s conception in November 1963 and bowed out a little over a year later. Speaking to Luton Comic-Con (via The Radio Times), Ford said any potential return to the series would bevery emotional

“I don’t know if I could survive the excitement actually, it would be intense beyond all intensity,Ford said. It’s not just returning, it would bring back all the memories of William Russell and Jackie and Bill [William Hartnell] and various other people who aren’t with us anymore. I might be a little bit overcome and start blubbing.”

“I keep being reminded I’m the last one standing and it’s not something I’m happy to hear,Ford added. After being absent from the series for almost six decades, the 84-year-old actor said she understood thedilemmaof a role reprisal. He [the Doctor] said he’d come back and get me and never did. I’d give him a good telling off if I saw him again.”

“I understand their dilemma, how difficult it must be to write for me. It has been 60 years since I was first in it.”

I‘ve met Russell [T Davies] a few times and I absolutely adore him. He is the man that would be the boss man to sayyesorno– so hopefully it’s going to beyes.

The late William Russell, who portrayed Ian Chesterton in 1963-65, broke a world record after making a cameo in Jodie Whittaker’s finale in 2022.
