In the eighth episode of the second season of Breaking Bad, some years back, there was a particular episode in the series that introduced us to Saul Goodman – tentatively titled “Better Call Saul.” Wind the clock forward, and Better Call Saul becomes a prequel series exploring how Jimmy McGill, a morally challenged criminal lawyer becomes a criminal lawyer.
It seems now the spin-off is returning the favour to the parent show – with the eleventh episode of Better Call Saul’s final season being titled “Breaking Bad.” The episode title first appeared on a TV listing in Canada, TVPassport. The AV Club subsequently contacted AMC, who confirmed the title was correct. Cue the fan-girl noises. Just me? – I doubt it.
Considering Saul made his first appearance in an episode reflecting his name, it would stand to reason that we’d see Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reprising their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Understandably, for fans of the series and its highly acclaimed spin-off, this is a moment long in the waiting.
Plus, this episode, the second to last in Better Call Saul Season 6, will mark the first time Cranston, Paul, and Odenkirk (who plays Saul), have appeared on screen together in ten years.
It’ll be a trip down nostalgia lane for many and a treat to finally discover how all of their stories connect in the years before they met. In a tweet posted by Odenkirk last year, he confirmed that both Cranston and Paul would return to the spin-off as the humble high school teacher-turned-crystal meth kingpin and student-turned-meth dealer.
